"Let me Win. But if I Cannot Win, Let me be Brave in the Attempt."
Olympic torch. Then on Saturday morning the competition began. The Level 2 and level 4 competitions were held on the Wannamaker course. Each day we began our round at around 8:30 AM. At the end of the first day Jonathan and I were 5 shots out of first place and 3 shots out of third by recording a 55.
On Sunday morning we arrived early and took some swings at the driving range to see if that would help us score better. Unfortunately that did not happen. We shot a 57 on Sunday, but we still had a good shot at taking third place because we were only 3 shots behind heading into Mondays round. On Sunday evening we had a wonderful banquet which included turkey, ham, green beans and carrots, mashed potatoes, and so many desserts that you could not count them all.
As we entered Monday's round we had a clear plan. The plan was to stay in bounds with our shots and to not putt more than 2 times on a hole. The plan was good, but we did not do too well in following the plan. We ended up shooting a 59 and finished in fourth place just 2 shots out of third. We brought home a White ribbon for our efforts but the best thing we brought home were the memories. The friends we developed while being there and the wonderful Special Olympic spirit that was so evident in everyone, made the weekend a memorable time. Jonathan and I consider it an honor to be able to represent Leon County at this great event. Thank you for all your support and encouragement.
